Amazing animals in Year 1!

28/3/17

This morning in Year 1 we had a lovely lady from ForPaws, Gosforth who brought in lots of amazing animals for us to hold, stroke and learn about. We looked at Peter Rabbit the giant bunny, a guinea pig with one eye called Popeye and a guinea pig with no fur, a skinny pig!

We could tell they were mammals because we could feel their fur and their spines.

Next it was time to look at some reptiles. We met a bearded dragon with very rough skin and spikes that looked sharp, but surprisingly were not! We got to hold a corn snake from North America and some of us were super brave and let it slither round our neck!

We finally met a tarantula called prickly bum! We learned that tarantulas have short spiky hair in their bottoms to shoot out at predators. We didn’t stroke it, but we did have a good look at its pink head!

It was great getting to meet your pets Eileen, and thank you so much for telling us all about them and how to care for them!
