To kick start our ‘Castles’ topic, Year 1 had a special visitor this morning.
Matilde came in to tell us all about what life was like to live in a castle in medieval times.
We learned about how people dressed in those days and the difference between the rich and the poor. We decided that we would definitely prefer to be rich as their clothes were soft whereas the clothes of the poor were itchy and not as nice.
Sir Lennon came down from Year 4 to model to us how a knight would dress in battle. First he placed on a tunic then some EXTREMELY heavy chainmail! He put on another tunic with his Lord’s emblem on so knights knew who to kill in battle. We saw the different helmets that they wore and it was really interesting to pass around the different weapons. They looked super dangerous!
At the end we had time to ask some questions to find out even more. Thank you so much for visiting us Matilde, we learned so much and got a great insight into what life was like in a castle.
