Year 4 – we would just like to say a big HELLO and that we are missing you all so much! It has been lovely seeing what you have been getting up to at home; your videos and photos have really cheered us up and made us smile. We are so proud of each and every one of you, you have impressed us all with your creativity and fun approach to learning.
We too have been busy with our own families. In the Graham household, we have enjoyed playing lots of board games, reading stories and baking cakes and biscuits (and eating them). Amelie also had fun experimenting with her science kit and i had even more fun cleaning all the mess up afterwards! Have you been playing any good board games? Can you recommend any good books to read?
Mr Nettleship has been busy building a fabulous lego model – can you guess what it is? Please tweet us any pictures of your own super lego creations! Mrs Harrison has been keeping fit at home with her two girls and they have also been busy in the kitchen too. Don’t forget to keep sharing any delicious recipes with us, so we can try them out at home too. Mrs Marshall’s household had a a very special visitor – a panda came to visit them, which was lots of fun! Have a go at inviting your favourite animal into your home. Type an animals name into Google (on iphone or Android) then scroll down and press ‘view in 3D’. It brings up your camera and then 30 seconds later you have a creature in your house!! Mrs Johnston also has a special visitor staying with her, Ginny the Archibald guinea pig, who is settling well into her new home and is receiving lots of cuddles from Mrs Johnston and her three boys.
Here are some ideas of activities you may want to try over the next few weeks – remember, you can do as many or as few as you wish.
Literacy Challenge
After Easter, we were going to start reading Kensuke’s Kingdom by Michael Morpergo. This is one of our favourite books and we would love you to have a read of it too. What do you think the book will be about? What information can be inferred from the front cover? Have you read any other stories by the same author? Alternatively, pick your favourite book or author and choose a new word to look up in the dictionary, aim for one each day. Here are some other fun challenges that you may like to try.
Maths Challenge
Please continue with learning your times tables, use the weblinks on the home learning page to help you. How many fun ways can you think of to do this? This week we would also like you to focus on time. Are you secure telling the time to 5 minute intervals? Can you write some time word problems for your family to solve – don’t forget to share them with us!
DT Challenge
As we didn’t get to have our DT Day, we would like you to have a go at making a 3D model at home (it doesn’t have to be the same as your original design or include an electrical circuit). It could be a model of the future, or simply, a model of your choosing. We can’t wait to see what you come up with!
Science Challenges
1. Can you create a poster to promote the safe use of electricity?
2. Can you create a flow diagram to show the journey of mains electricity?
3. Can you create a mind map to show what you have learnt about sound and electricity?
We have loved seeing the lovely things you are getting up to with your families and we know you are all working hard so don’t worry if you do not get round to completing these challenges, but we will be super impressed if you manage one or two.
