We have had yet another fantastic half term in Year 1. The children continue to blow us away and we are so proud of everything that they have achieved.
Read on to find out what we have been up to.
Wonderful Work
We have had yet another super successful half term in year 1. The children continue to impress their teachers by working super hard each and every day. This half term we have learnt about the Norman invasions and the Battle of 1066 in History, written reports and non chronological texts in Literacy, learnt how to skip count in 2s, 5s and 10s in Numeracy and made our own moving vehicles with wheels, axels and axel holders in DT.
Are you really only 5 and 6 years old year 1?
We are so proud of you!
Marvellous Music
In year 1 we have been lucky enough to take part in a story telling music workshop. Based around the book ‘Funny Bones’ the children have learnt all about pulse, rhythm and pitch through a variety of songs and percussion instruments. They have worked together to create several pieces of music including using dynamics to play a piece inspired by a thundery night!
Well done Year 1!
Fantastic Forest School
The children in Year 1 have now all had the opportunity to take part in forest school. This has been a wonderful experience for them all and one that they have thoroughly enjoyed.
They have learnt new team games, how to build dens, completed art work using natural materials and been involved in a range of problem solving activities.
A huge thank you to Mr Holman and Mrs Ward for the experience!
Let’s Get Planting!
The children in Year 1 were lucky enough to receive a visit from one of our lovely parents. Felix’s mum very kindly came into school to help us become more green fingered! We learnt how to plant tomato, pepper, pumpkin and carrot seeds. Mrs Brown showed us how to use the soil to make space for the seed and told us all about the conditions they need to grow.
Next half term we will look after our seeds, replant them outside, before harvesting them in the autumn when we can cook and taste them!
Thank you Mrs Brown!
A Terrific Trip
On Tuesday 5th April year 1 went on a trip to Newcastle Castle. It was a very exciting experience as it was the first school trip that the children had been on. They got to experience being inside a real castle, completed a workshop on the Battle of Hastings, saw and handled artefacts such as armour and weapons and even re-enacted the battle itself.
It was a fantastic way to end our topic on the Norman invasion and the children were superstars all day!
Have a lovely Easter break year 1.
Thank you for always working hard, doing your best and being so kind and caring.
We are very proud of you!
See you in the summer term.
