An amazing trip to St. Mary’s Lighthouse

24/6/16

At the lighthouse

On Friday Class 2 and Nursery 2 embarked on their exciting trip to St. Mary’s Lighthouse.

Class 1 and Nursery 1 had told us how much fun the trip was and they were not wrong!

We spent the morning rock pooling. We went off in groups with our nets and buckets to see what exciting and interesting creatures we could find. Every group did amazingly. Some found hermit crabs, prawns, shrimps, sea snails and some crab shells. Some lucky groups even managed to find some rather large crabs! We also found a beautiful starfish and we saw two hermit crabs swap shells!

What can we find? Look! Catching with the net A CRAB! Rock pooling what can you see? cheese! using my net what can we catch?rock pooling looking for crabs rock pooling a big crab!rock pooling A starfish

Luckily we went inside for lunch just in time as the heavens then opened.

LunchtimeThe most important part of the day

After lunch (a favourite part of the day for many children) we had lots of sea songs and acted out a sea story. We also went on a very big adventure… all the way to the top of the lighthouse! We had to climb a whopping 137 steps! All the grown ups were so proud of how sensible and brave every child was.

A sailor went to sea sea sea.. Ready to go! Looking out the window Can you see any seals? Right at the top! At the top of the lighthouse at the top of the lighthouselots of steps!LOOK!The light smile sea songslooking at the view

We all had a brilliant day and we hope it has inspired the children for our ‘Commotion in the Ocean’ topic. Thank you to all the parents and carers that came to help, we could not do trips without you! Also a huge thank you to the PTFA who helped towards the cost of the trip.

it has been a long day!
