Wow! We are so grateful for your help this week. Lots of you really loved our missing vegetable mystery. You had lots of great ideas which you shared with us. Some of you even had vegetables go missing too. One person left a box of vegetables for the teachers to collect. Check out below some of the super writing and traps that were created.

This week we would like you to go on an adventure. You will need a box or rug and your favourite teddy to join you on your adventure. Reception, we will be revisiting 3D shape this week. This week’s topic is something you can really get your teeth into.

Reception
This week is all about adventures!!! Can you get creative? We know you can. Grab a box and climb in or what about your bear from pass the bear – could he/she go on an adventure?
If you don’t have a box, what about a rug to be a magic carpet?
( Mums and Dads- you could leave the box out to be found in the morning, even add a note from teddy asking them for an adventure)
Think about an adventure you or your teddy would like to go on and answer our questions…
- Where would your adventure take you?
- How would you get there?
- What would you do on your adventure?
- Who would you take on your adventure?
- Who would you see on your adventure?
- What was the best part?
Ideas linked to your own adventures
- Listen to the story first and talk about the adventure Baby Bear goes on. Now think of your own adventure.
- Draw/paint where your adventure would take you.
- Draw and label how you would travel. Or even make your vehicle out of junk materials or construction toys
- Would you have a picnic on your adventure? Write a list of what you would have on your picnic. Draw or use pictures to cut out of what you would eat on your adventure. Even better make it.
- Draw/Paint or use something like chalk/crayons to show who would go with you on your adventure or indeed who you might meet.
- Tell someone/Write what was the best part of your adventure and why.
Ideas linking to the story of Whatever Next;
Idea 1: Listen to the story of Whatever next. The story starts with a question. Can you think of other questions? What do we write at the end of a question? A question mark. Try writing some questions for your family and don’t forget to put a question mark on the end. If you were going to travel to the moon – what would you need or take?Write a list.
Idea 2: Thinking of your own adventure can you draw or paint a picture of where your adventure would take you? Add a sentence or two to go with it.
Idea 3: Use junk modelling materials to make your very own rocket. Investigate real rockets first – what would it need? Windows? Rocket booster? Label your own model.
Idea 4: Write a letter to Owl from Baby bear a few days after he has returned from his trip to the moon. What would he ask?
Idea 5: Collect a cardboard box big enough to sit in, a colander from the kitchen, a pair of wellies, some biscuits and an apple and re-tell the story in your own words. (An owl and an aeroplane are great added extras) Or draw pictures to sequence the story.

Extra activities:
Make moon sand – 8 cups of flour, 1 cup of baby oil.
Investigate about the moon and the planets – What can you remember from what we learnt in school? Make a planets mobile.

Numeracy (Reception)
This week we would like to recap 3d shape. These shapes are easy to find at home. As with last weeks work try to use as much language as possible. Use the names of the shapes. Talk about how many faces and edges the shape have. There is a poster below to help.
Try going on a shape hunt around your home or on your daily walk. You could get your child to use a camera or phone to take photos of what they see.
Linked to this week’s book- can they build a model and talk about the shapes in their model. Discuss why they chose the 3d shape they did. What properties
Grab a bag and pop some objects inside. Can you or your child feel the shape and describe it without saying it’s name.
Shape sort-Give your child a selection of objects- can they sort the objects by their shape. Why are all of these objects cylinders etc?
Try making shapes out of playdough. Which are easy to make? Which ones are tricky? What does this shape need to be a cube?
Topic
One part of our bodies we need to keep healthy are our teeth. So lets find out how to keep them healthy.
Watch Get well soon to talk about teeth. Dr Ranj has amazingly shiny teeth so who better to talk about this.
