What a half term Year 2 ha s had! We have delved into historical knowledge and enquiry, learning about the Great Fire of London and the Great Fire of Gateshead/Newcastle. We learnt how these disasters happened, the impact of the disasters and compared them too!
In Literacy, we had a fun week of drama! The children got involved by acting as different key figures from the Great Fire of London and sitting in the hot-seat, answering questions in role! You can see some of the questions below.
We also explored persuasive writing. We developed these skills to write a letter to King Charles II on how to rebuild London in a safer way after the Great Fire of London. In relation to this, we learnt about Robert Pattinson’s campaign to start a fire brigade in Newcastle and created posters to continue his campaign!
As scientists, we investigated different materials and their everyday uses. We identified their properties including flexibility, durability and water resistance.
In Art & DT week we had a super project where the children had to study levers and linkages and develop their own design to make a ‘moving monster’.
The Great Fire of London gave the children inspiration to create their own city skylines against a backdrop of fiery flames, created using textured printing.
Our final 2 weeks of term has been filled with fun! The children performed beautifully in their Christmas concert and it was lovely to see so many of you there to support them!
Christmas parties, movie and pyjama day, the visit to the pantomime Christmas arts and crafts have filled our final few days with celebration and excitement!
We wish you and all your families a wonderful Christmas and the best for 2023!
Love from the Year 2 Team.
