It’s the most wonderful time of the year in Year 1!

22/12/22

What a fantastic term we have had in year 1.
The children have been working so hard and we couldn’t be more proud of them.
Take a look at what we have been up to!

Amazing Art!
During art week we focused on the skills of colour mixing and painting. The children learnt how to mix the secondary colours from the primary colours and then used this to create there own version of ‘Numbers in Colour’ Jasper Johns.
I know we are biased, but we think that the children’s collaborative art work is just as good (if not better) then the original!

We then went on to look at the work of Paul Klee and used the skills that we had learnt to create our own compositions of “Castle in the Sun”.
The children have been phenomenal artists this half term; well done year 1!

Fantastic Forest School
We have been lucky enough to go to forest school almost every week in the autumn term. The children have loved outdoor learning and have gained so many new skills. Some of the activities that we have taken part in include; den building, creating a ‘gift’, team games, using our senses when cooking popcorn on the bonfire, making smores and singing around the campfire.
A huge thank you to Mr Holman for leading these sessions. We can’t wait for more in the spring term!

A Lovely Library Visit
At the beginning of December the whole of year 1 were invited to visit Gosforth Library. We had a lovely afternoon looking at the wide range of books that they have on offer, listening to a story, completing crafts and hearing about all of the activities on offer for the local community. Thank you to librarian Laura for reading us a story and for asking us to come and visit, we had a lovely time!

Thank you and Well Done!
The Year 1 team would like to say a huge well done to the children for all their hard work over the last term. You are all superstars and we are very proud of you.
We would also like to thank all of our parents and carers for their continued support, we hope you all have a lovely break and enjoy spending time with your friends, family and loved ones.
Merry Christmas and see you in January!
