Class 7 had a big decision to make on World Book Day… what was our new class novel going to be? There are so many amazing books out there and the children suggested a vast range of good ones! To help us with our decision making we held the World Book Cup.
Our first task was to explore the different books that were in the knockout rounds, we had lots of fun moving around the classroom analysing front covers, extracts and reviews.
“I really wanted to read Cloud Busting because I wanted to find out what happened in the end as they left it on a cliffhanger!” – Rebecca
Then the knockout rounds began! Starting with Who Let The Gods Out vs Percy Jackson, we worked our way through, eliminating those with the least votes:
No of votes: | Book Name: | Book Name: |
No of votes: |
7 | Who Let The Gods Out | Percy Jackson | 17 |
14 | Beetle Boy | Shadow Forest | 10 |
4 | Charlotte’s Web | My Brother Is A Superhero | 20 |
19 | The Lion. The Witch and The Wardrobe | George’s Secret Key to The Universe | 5 |
14 | Kensuke’s Kingdom | Cogheart | 10 |
13 | Harry Potter | Millions | 11 |
7 | Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland | The Goldfish Boy | 17 |
10 | Varjak Paw | Cloud Busting | 14 |
14 | The Apprentice Witch | A Girl Called Owl | 10 |
9 | Stig of The Dump | How To Train Your Dragon | 15 |
“I really wanted it to be Charlotte’s Web because it teaches you to not be scared of some animals.” – Francesca
“I really wanted it to be Percy Jackson or Harry Potter and in the second to last vote I couldn’t choose, so I just went for Harry Potter.” – Henry.
After lots of voting we managed to get to our very magical top three:
- Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone
- The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe
- The Apprentice Witch
In the end, our winner was…
The Apprentice Witch! We’re all really looking forward to starting this together soon!
