Hi everyone! Miss White here. I hope you are all enjoying spending time and possibly learning new skills at home with your family, whilst managing to stay active, too. I wanted to write to you to tell you a bit about my week, as, just like yours, it has been very different!
Last week, I was supposed to go to the airport after school so that I could stay with my family during this very strange time, but unfortunately all the flights were cancelled. I realised this is what it must have felt like when Paddington Bear was stuck in the station!
Challenge 1: Map Skills
Imagine this: I spent time in THREE different UK countries whilst trying to get home to my family! Can you work out how? Perhaps you could use a map of the UK to plan my journey from Newcastle upon Tyne to Bangor, County Down. Remember, I couldn’t take the plane. Share your ideas on our Facebook page (Archibald 2019-20) and I will share the answer with you on our next blog!
Whilst I have been staying safe inside, I have decided to use some of my spare time to learn something new. I chose… the ukulele! I think my neighbours are especially pleased about this as they get to listen to me practise ALL the time! The first tune I learnt was ‘You are my Sunshine.’ If I get any better, perhaps I’ll share it with you!
Challenge 2: Design, Make, Evaluate
At school, we should have been finishing off our rainmakers. Can you choose a musical instrument and try to make it out of recyclable items? Look at the images below for some inspiration! Once you have completed your instrument, perhaps you could think about ways to improve it. Perhaps if the whole family get involved, you could start a band just like Tom Fletcher’s family have done: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tzHXW87pbL8
I have also been making lots of phone calls to ensure my family have everything they need, doing jobs for you on my laptop and getting impatient about when I might see you all next. Mrs Sinclair has been telling me she feels exactly the same. We have loved seeing all the activities you have been up to as it has really cheered us up. Hugo – those cakes looked delicious, and Hallie your Spanish work was ‘İfenomenal!’. We loved your superhero wristbands, Sophie; what a thoughtful invention! And those facts about lions were fantastic, Poppy! Thank you for all your beautiful posters on Friday night; it made all of us very happy – some of us even had happy tears! A final thank you for all your Class Assembly posts – they were magnificent!
Mrs Sinclair has been keeping safe at home with Mr Sinclair and Milo the cat. They have been doing some baking, DIY, and I believe Mr Sinclair was caught hoovering the grass! They are also busy preparing for the arrival of their baby girl – how exciting! They have been making sure Mrs Sinclair has everything for her trip to the hospital and lots of lovely things for when baby arrives.
Challenge 3: Life Skills
What advice do you have for Mr and Mrs Sinclair? What do babies do? What do they need? How can we look after them really well? Send us your advice on the Facebook group – it could be a picture, booklet, video – the choice is yours!
Challenge 4: DT/Life Skills
Can you work with a grown up to create something to eat? You might choose to bake, cook, or prepare chilled foods! If you are doing any chopping, see if you can use the bridge technique. Again, we’d love to see your attempts on the Facebook page! The Biscuiteers Ltd have some activities, recipes and an ‘iceolation’ challenge here: https://www.biscuiteers.com/iceolation-challenge
Stay safe everyone, and we will let you know what else us grown ups get up to!
Love Miss White, Mrs Sinclair, Mrs Corrigan, Mr Holman and Mrs Conway x
