Within each year group the children learn new skills and knowledge in painting, printing, sculpture and developing ideas. Within each Key Stage they will also experience collage, printing and digital art. The teaching of these skills is embedded in high-quality purposeful learning which, when appropriate, is linked with the topics being covered. Not only do we teach the children to apply the skills, but we teach the children to appraise artwork, draw comparisons and verbalise their opinions.
Each year our Art Ambassadors help plan whole school projects to enrich our art curriculum and help celebrate our individual creativity. We welcome local artists into school to work with our children, and by the end of Archibald each child will have had multiple visits to a local art gallery and experienced working alongside real life artists.
Throughout their time at Archibald, the children learn about artists of the North East, Britain and the world including artists of both genders, those accomplished in the different disciplines of art as well as the styles of art. The children also explore the art work of artists with a range of disabilities to show that art can be accessible to all.
We have also achieved Artsmark status. This is a nationally recognised award which shows we demonstrate excellence in arts and cultural provision. In October 2022, we were awarded Artsmark Gold! We are currently reapply for this award but this time we are striving for Platinum!
