Welcome to Archibald from the Governing Body. Our role is to act as a ‘critical friend’ to the school. As the school governors, we are involved in understanding and challenging how the school plans and evaluates its teaching and learning to help ensure that every child develops and progresses.

What do we do as governors?

As governors, we work closely with the school management team and school staff and are involved in –

Supporting and defining the school vision – who are we and what are we about?
Strategic planning for the school – where are we going?
Monitoring and evaluating the progress of the school against these plans – how are we doing and can we do better?
Supporting and challenging the school team – why are we doing things this way?
Being accountable to parents and others about the school’s performance – how can we show that the school is doing what it has said?
Ensuring that the school meets its statutory obligations and is financially secure

We meet as a whole group termly, with additional regular committees held to focus on key areas such as teaching & learning, finance, leadership & support, estates and safety, special educational need provision and a performance review.

Governors work collectively to support the school leadership team in setting standards and shaping how the school develops. We work with the school to confirm that they are continually striving to provide the best value for each and every child at Archibald First School.

Contacting the Governing Body

We are very willing and happy to be approached or contacted by parents to discuss relevant issues, particularly in relation to the strategic direction of the school. Please contact us through the school office or by using the following email – governors@archibaldfirstschool.co.uk.

If you have a specific concern about the school or your child, we encourage you to discuss this with the relevant class teacher initially. If the matter is not resolved then you should contact the Headteacher to discuss. If after this discussion your concerns remain, then it would be appropriate to contact the Chair of the Governors to discuss the matter further through the school office.
