Y3 Art DT week Summer 2
Art and DT week in Year 3!
This week, Year 3 have dived into a vibrant and creative Art and Design Technology (DT) week, exploring the fascinating world of the Impressionist movement. The children learned about the key features of Impressionist painting, which involves using quick, short strokes and dabbing techniques to capture light and movement in a unique way. The class studied famous artists like Claude Monet and Pierre-Auguste Renoir, discovering how they used tints, tones, and shades to create natural effects in their paintings. Through hands-on activities, the children practiced these techniques themselves, mixing colors carefully to mimic the delicate play of light and shadow seen in nature. They experimented with layering paint in quick strokes to create lively and textured artworks that truly reflected the Impressionist style. In addition to painting, Year 3 extended their creativity into sculpture. Inspired by contemporary artist Laura Partington, who is well-known for her delicate wire sculptures of animals and plants, the children created their own wire fish sculptures. Using thin wire, they bent and twisted shapes to form the body, fins, and tails of different fish, learning how to work carefully and patiently with this challenging material.
This Art and DT week has been a wonderful opportunity for the children to explore different artistic styles and techniques, encouraging them to express themselves through both painting and sculpture. The combination of Impressionist painting and wire sculpture helped them develop fine motor skills and a deeper appreciation of how artists can capture the beauty of the natural world in different ways.
We’re incredibly proud of the creativity and enthusiasm shown by all the Year 3 students!
